FEATURING THE INCREDIBLE.....
This the amazing multi-instrumentalist debuted in 2002 with the album To Let. He than began a journey that would see him become one of the most iconic voices in Australian music, literally and figuratively. With each new album, this journey has wound like a river making its way toward the ocean - twisting and turning, flowing and cascading as it relentlessly pushes forward. With his most recent album Spirit Bird being shaped by his history but continuing to break new ground, Xavier Rudd is at his most creative, once again painting breathtaking pictures with vivid, unmistakable tones. Hypnotic ceremonial rhythms ease effortlessly into tender folk songs. Gritty guitar blues sits perfectly alongside entrancing yidaki passages. Rudd’s voice, and the voice of his ancestors, yet again bearing truth and knowledge.
Six-foot frontwoman Emily Lubitz twirls her flaming hair out across a complex and original musical creation, in which virtuoso instrumental performances and pulsating rhythms merge to form a wholly unique sound. Imagine Edith Piaf in the body of Mrs Jessica Rabbit, wandering through a landscape of suburban fairy tales and electric static clouds. Guitarist Jesse Lubitz thumps up dust from the floor of the stage, the Daniel Farugia’s drums rumble, the organ whirrs, and up over the top of everything floats the prodigal Alex Burkoy’s achingly sad violin.
Since their early days as Australian folk darlings, brother-and-sister duo Tinpan Orange have evolved into a dizzyingly original musical force. Still evident is the lush songcraft and lyrical depth for which they are renowned, but the landscape in which the songs are set has shifted…
Their new album, ‘Over the Sun’ (2012) sees the band transplanted into the middle of an operatic third act with high drama all around, full orchestra in flight, the drums of war rumbling.
Morgan Bain is a rarity in the music world. While most musicians consider themselves fortunate to build a successful career over many years, the talented teenager has accomplished more than contemporaries twice his age in half the time and may be Western Australia’s most promising singer-songwriter.
His song writing is insightful, powerful and emotive, matched with a soulful voice well beyond his years. With his high energy guitar playing intertwined with an earthy stomp box and powerful blues harmonica his talent is unmistakable and makes for captivating raw performances and a sensibility that showcases his skills in the Blues/Roots genre.
